REFLECTION
Experience
After two semesters, I can finally stop research writing! It has been quite a long journey to finally get our study done and I learned so much about how to effectively conduct research to make it as accurate as possible. Honestly, after DRM, I wanted to change my topic as I was not excited about it anymore because 1) I was kinda sick of looking at chocolate packaging, 2) the topic is so niche that it is hard to find relevant papers to my topic. However, I hung on and continued writing because we were already halfway there and there was no point turning back. In the end, I'm satisfied with how my paper turned out. Could it be done better? Definitely, but my brain was honestly dying every time I opened my Google Docs file so it's a miracle I finished it on time. As much as I would love to never write a dissertation again, I am aware that we always have to do research before designing and it is therefore inevitable in the end. Overall, I'm still glad I went through this module.
Observation
As mentioned above, I definitely learned a lot on how to effectively conduct research as there was a lot of planning and justification to be done beforehand. When it came to discussion, there was also a lot of thinking to be done on how to get the point forward and not accidentally beat around the bush. I realized since majority of our classes were 1-to-1, we never got to see each other's papers unless we asked each other about it or took their survey. Hence, when we had our first combined class for our Ebook cover, that was when I realized how different all our topics were and it was interesting to finally see how they tried to interpret it into book cover too.
Findings
I would list down all my references here as a joke but by reading all those papers (some not completely), I actually learned a lot of things even outside of the chocolate situation. There was so much research being done that I was not even aware of the need for such research. In the end, I learned a lot about the impact of design elements in general and also in food packaging specifically. It was sometimes frustrating when I was not given access to read some papers that I thought might help me, so I ended up using ChatGPT and Google's Bard to help me look for research papers with public access so I would not need to waste 2309495 hours looking for them.
