LECTURES

WEEK 7 -  3-ACTS STRUCTURE

Storytelling basics
1) Central theme
2) Character

3 Acts Structure:
SETUP -> CONFLICT-> RESOLUTION

WEEK 8 -  NO LECTURE (ILW)

WEEK 9 -  TRANSITIONS

A picture alone does not include context but when you add another one in relation, it tells a story. Even if the second picture does not seem relevant, Gestalt theory can be applied to piece together what happened in between the frames.

7 TYPES OF TRANSITIONS ACCORDING TO SCOTT MCLOUD:
1) Moment to Moment
2) TO
3) Subject to Subject
4) Scene to Scene
5) Aspect to Aspect

Task 3: Graphic Novel

Week 10

I started to come out with an idea for my story using the 3 act structure. As someone who writes lots of random stories for fun, coming out with the story was pretty easy for me. However, instead of writing it first, I decided to draw the keyframes first to get an idea of how it would look.

FEEDBACK

Week 10:
Good story, can add a part where it shows Tour Frog back in his glory days of being a gymnast and him trying on his old suit before he went on the chase to add a more comical element to it. Remember to make an extra character design for young Tour Frog.

REFLECTION

This. assignment. was. just. pain. I was already burnt out by the end of the semester, and having to complete this just made it worse. It was fulfilling to see my comic and animation come to life, but gosh it was such a tedious process having to draw it in Illustrator and then moving to After Effects. I am glad I drew it in Illustrator though because the quality was crisp even during the editing phase as well as the final product. But animating each panel one by one in After Effects was so tedious that I eventually stretched the editing phase to a whole week. I absolutely underestimated how much work would be needed to be put into this animation and I am just glad that I finished it. It is not the best, but I am proud of it.
