PROGRESS

Week 1

Task: Watch 3 Stop Motion Videos

I just went on Youtube and searched up Stop Motion Videos and chose them based on the thumbnails and titles.

Video 1: Stop Motion Cooking

Video 2: Stop Motion Short Film

Video 3: Stop Motion Short Film

Video 4: Stop Motion Short Film (Extra because I ended up watching a lot more)

Week 10

For this week, we were told to create a proposal and start planning the storyboard of our stop motion film. Qiao Yin and I had different ideas at first but decided to create a two-part story together. Our videos can stand alone yet somewhat vaguely connected.

Week 11

For this week, I was only able to draft the storyboard and calculate how many scenes and shots it will take.

Week 12

This week, I went to Qiao Yin's house to build our set out of Legos and shoot together. However, we were not able to finish shooting the whole film in her house so we continued individually.

Week 13

After looking through all the footage from QY's house, I realized that:
1) The video is gonna end up almost 2 minutes long
2) It did not look as nice as expected because we were rushing to finish it in one day.
Hence, I decided to rewrite the whole thing, keeping the same plot but shortening it.

Week 14

After briefly storyboarding and calculating the shots of the new plan, I started shooting it at home using the same set but on our dining table instead. I used my DSLR, tripod, LED light, and reflector as my set. I duct-taped the light which was on a phone tripod to my water bottle so I could adjust it to the angle I wanted.

Shooting

Editing

I was going to cry when I saw the message.

First, I went through a whole round of data corruption which I suspect is due to my SD card reader because this wasn't the first time I encountered this problem. Hence, I had to wait over 4 hours for my data recovery software to scan the SD card because it was 64GB and it was restoring deleted files too. Thank God for the included free data recovery subscription for 2 years because I bought a Sandisk SD card.

Then I had to wait another 2 hours for it to download everything again. In the end, most of the photos were restored, but some were distorted. However, I did not want to shoot the whole thing again so I went on with editing. This is essentially a long story short because my computer crashed halfway and yea.

I made a list of sound effects I needed and looked for them on sound effects websites as well as Youtube. I also had my friend record the conversation noises because she specializes in making these funny animal sounds HAHAHAHA.

In the end, I imported the frames straight into Premiere Pro but because of the whole corruption thing, everything was jumbled up and not in order so it was quite confusing because there were some deleted shots included too. After slowly rearranging everything for 1 hour, I finally moved on to adding the sound effects. To make it sound somewhat funny, Careless Whisper's pitch was increased and distorted at one point to match the mood. I also did not do colour grading because I actually really liked the current tone and mood because of the lighting and did not find adjustments necessary.

After finishing up with all the audio, I just added the subtitles and text and it was finished!
