LECTURES
WEEK 5 - FOREGROUND, MIDDLEGROUND, BACKGROUND
This week, we learned about composition using foreground, middleground and background. To learn from example, we watched a short film on Youtube titled The Soloists by Gobelins.
COMPOSITION ANALYSIS - NAPO
NAPO is an animated short film I stumbled upon on Youtube that made me cry. It tells the story of a grandfather moving into his daughter's house while his condition detoriates. During his stay, the grandson starts to help him regain lost memories by reinterpreting his old photographs as new drawings.
Fig 1.1 Grandson walks away from his drawing on the ground.
In this scene, the grandfather can be seen sitting on the sofa in the foreground. His silhouette is poking out just enough for the viewer to be able to see him. Meanwhile, the grandson serves as the middleground where he slowly walks away from the drawing he left on the ground. In the background, the furniture and the TV can be seen as well as light coming in from the window on the left. The two sofas as the foreground frame the shot using rule of thirds, emphasizing focus on the boy in the center.

Task 2: Decisive Moment - Poster
Week 7
Initially, I was contemplating whether to do frame-by-frame animation in Illustrator then using Photoshop but I realized it would be too time-consuming. Hence, I tried to use After Effects for the first time following simple tutorials.

Fig 2.7 Third vectorized version 2 suggested by Mr Hafiz. (27/5/2022)
Fig 2.8 Final version for poster in .jpeg (28/5/2022)
After an hour of exploring and help from seom peers, this was the final product. I used rotation and the Puppet tool to create this. It is a bit janky but as a first-timer, I think it is acceptable.
