INSTRUCTIONS
Assignment 1: Proposal
Assignment 2: Critical Review
Assignment 3: Research Design - Primary Data
Assignment 4: Research Reflection Report
FEEDBACK
Week 2:
The topic is fine but Dr. Jinchi suggested to try "How Packaging design for chocolate bars changes according to design trends" for the research problem. If not, I could change the wording of the current research problem by including the word "portrayal "so that it reflects the problem better. Many things mentioned also did not have a reference so be sure to get the source. Second sentenced can be rephrase into sometihng like "From a student, packaging design research for chocolate is not easily available". Include pictures for examples. Exaplin why the topic was chosen. End the research problem with something like "Hence, that is an avenue for research to be conducted".
Week 3:
Research problem is good to go. For problem statement, the second paragraph can talk about the different class of chocolate, and talk about how packaging design allows people to tell which class the chocolate is. Stress about how this is thanks to sensible use of design. Last paragraph can indicate what method will be used for the study. If planning to go with observation, find articles who use the method too and observe how they use it. Explain primary and secondary packaging. Complete problem statement by next week.
Week 4:
To address the research problem
Indicate how the diff chocolate type is chosen
To explore the portrayal of the various categories of chocolate through the application of design elements
Choose either “class” or “categories”. Don't use both words, consistency.
Reword the objectives as questions

Week 5:
The 3 papers chosen were fine, but one needed to request access to get the pdf.
One of the articles selected earlier by Ms Jinchi was actually a blog so it cannot be used.
During class, Ms Jinchi found another article that could be used too.
Overall, need to find more relevant papers.

Week 6:
Don't need to repeat the title of the article, just cite the author and year.
When all the articles are combined, need to cite author and year, don't say "in their paper"
Indicate research method earlier and the strength and weaknesses of the method
What do you think about the conclusion? Are there weaknesses and strengths?

Week 7:
Go more in-depth and write more for evaluation.
Structure and arrange the review based on the section of the research paper
Reword some phrases
5th article is suitable to use, can go ahead.

Week 8:
Add justification for research method chosen
Identify the main elements of choclate packaging
Create a system of how you will be observing the elements
Justify the system
The current questions dont seem to be suitable
Try another approach for the questions

Week 9:
Define 'survey'
Rationale:
Cite the similar research papers (for both)
minor change in wordings
change third section title to Research Design
Research Design:
Visual analysis:
Justify choice of brands analyzed (Because of popularity, sales)
Can use table to write down the analysis
Questionnaire:
Find out the majority of age group thats more observant to packaging design
Most questions in first section are not neccesary.
Don't need so many warm up questions, later they become on fire.
Change questions to:
e) Are you aware of the categories of chocolate? mainstream, premium, fine) If yes, how do you know about it?
f) How often do you notice the packaging design on chocoalte packaging
Change choc examples to definitions of the categories.
E.g. main choc is everyday choc easily found in supermarkets at an affordable price while prem choc is is luxury choc at a higher price-range.
Give 2 examples of each choc category.
Which top two design elements did you think mainly influenced your answer above?
Change scale to 1 (least important) to 5 (most important).

Week 10:
- good number of responses and results
- can see the connection between the RO and data collected
- finish visual analysis
- include 360 view of the packaging
- justify survey questions
- quotes other researches
- analyse the same packaging used in the survey
- describe teh category frist, then look at individual elements
- describe how the elements are found in the packaging

Week 11:
things to add:
- add legend for fig 3.3
- write explanation for top 3 response only
- add legend for fig 3.3
- write explanation for top 3 response only
- add a short summary for section 3
write a brief observation statement like:
"this shows material is very important in chocolate packaging"
Week 12:
change headings/subheadings to dark brown to create more contrast
change the title slides to full screen so the background is not seen
continue to include the content

continue to include the content
Week 13:
try to combine two graphs in one slide to reuce the amount of slides
try to combine all the chocolate portrayal graphs into 1 slide for comparison
can attempt to combine the 4 visual elements graphs into one slide too

REFLECTION
Experience
Throughout these past 14 weeks, I have learned so much about conducting my own research. From writing a proposal, critical reviews, and then executing the data collection, it has all been a long journey. There were so many nights spent typing on Google Docs for a good 5 hours, and I was dying with only two brain cells left. This module definitely took up most of my time compared to other modules, especially since this module requires a lot of focus to do it. If I were to accidentally get sidetracked, I would lose my train of thought and my brain would stop flowing. Anyhow, I'm really glad everything is over and I can finally sleep in peace so I don't look like a zombie.
Observations
When creating our proposal, I observed how everyone had such different ideas and how it all came together in the end. Everyone had different ways of thinking and executing their research and it was really interesting to see. I also observed how some people simply don't understand what I mean when I told them to provide serious responses and ended up giving me nonsense. Oh well, the rest who gave me proper answers made it really interesting to read and go through the data all in all, so at least it did not feel as boring just looking at numbers.
Findings
I found out that when I record an online presentation and I would get somewhat nervous or awkward, my face will look like I am constantly gonna sneeze. Watching it back I kept trying not to laugh because it was like I'm waiting for a sneeze to happen but nothing happens, it's just my nostrils expanding HAHAHAHA. Also, my brain would lag sometimes and I would have random pauses mid-sentence, causing me to retake all of it a few times. I used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the video as usual so I did not come across any difficulties. I actually had a better mic but the sensitivity was so low that by increasing the gain, the background noises would be audible too. So in the end, I recorded everything on the iPad.
