IDEA EXPLORATION AND DESCRIPTION
Week 10
Since I was still unsure of what idea I wanted to go with, I decided to doodle whatever came into my head so I wouldn't lose the ideas. Hence, ignore the terribly drawn ideas.
Fig 2.1 First idea, me on my toilet throne. (30/5/2022)
Fig 2.2 Second idea, four bikes. (30/5/2022)
Fig 2.3 Third idea, me watching nature from a jar. (30/5/2022)
Toilet:
This idea was sparked when I thought of having my own private space to be in, which is the toilet for me. Also, I remember when my friends and I joked about the toilet being a throne. When we went over to his place, he said, 'only the king can sit on the throne'.
Bicycle:
This was when I thought of the pre-pandemic moments when my dad would sign the whole family up for a lot of cycling fun rides organized by big organizations for charity. So, I thought of showing it in a way of having 4 bicycles by the roadside.
Jar in the forest:
After seeing a lot of my classmates draw about nature, I wondered why didn't I think of that? It is because I just have a love-hate relationship with nature. I want to go into the jungle and see all the flora and fauna in the wild, but the problem is that bugs just cannot leave me alone. Instead of being a mosquito repellent, I am a mosquito attractor. I also get random bugs biting me when I go hiking which is why I hate nature-related outings. So me in a jar represents the barrier between me and nature.
Week 11
Fig 2.4 Improving on the third idea. (8/6/2022)
After the feedback, I took some ideas but expanded on a less comedic concept. I decided to expand more on the fact that the toilet was more of a thinking space for me and to organize my thoughts so I used thought bubbles to frame the artwork. I also added more elements to make it seem more like a toilet.
FEEDBACK
Week 10
Toilet: Can add idea bubbles with me sitting on it or a lamp to
represent thoughts. Awesome idea. The red carpet looks like blood
so better to replace it with something else. Can feature myself
sitting like a king/queen very seriously while holding a toilet
brush.
Bicycle: It's gonna end up quite technical and not expressing the
feeling. But can feature the things I see when we're cycling
instead of the bikes. Can use words and images too to represent
the chit-chat. Can be symbolic.
Jar in the forest: Can be humourous like the toilet idea. Very
well interpreted from the brief. Awesome idea, but the toilet idea
has more to work with.
FINAL OUTCOME
REFLECTION
There are so many places we encounter from the moment we're born, but how many do we remember? Going this way, people would normally choose vacation places and so. But I interpret this place as somewhere I spent quite a lot of time in, my own private space - the toilet! The toilet is my main thinking space where I get to gather all my thoughts and organize them. It is also the place that sparks the best ideas, or at least it is according to my maths teacher. This was another assignment where we had to reflect on ourselves and the feelings that different places evoke so it felt kinda weird to me to be so introspective but I am starting to appreciate this as it encourages a sense of mindfulness. Overall, I enjoyed this assignment too as I got to explore more anatomy because I usually avoid that.
