LECTURES

WEEK 3 - LECTURE 3 - LASSO TOOL, PEN TOOL & LAYERING

Introduction to Photoshop 2:

This week, we learnt about 3 Photoshop tools:

Lasso Tool allows you to draw and pinpoint specific areas of a document.
Magnetic Lasso Tool will snap to nearest anchor points.

Pen Tool is used to create a path from scratch. The fewer points, the smoother a path will be.
Can create: straight lines, U-shaped curves, simple S curves, complex S curves.

Layering allows us to add images on top of another without disrupting the original image.

WEEK 4 - LECTURE 4 - ADJUSTMENT LAYER AND FILTER

Introduction to Photoshop 3:

Adjustment layers are non-destructive editing tools in Photoshop.
Levels allow us to adjust
Curves lets us adjust as many points as we want throughout the entire tonal ranger of images
Exposure lets use adjust exposure levels with 3 sliders: Exposure, Offset and Gamma.
Selective Color selectively modifies the amount of a primary colour without modifying the other primary colours

Filters can be used to change colour, add blur or create completely new image effects.

PROGRESS

Week 3

Class activity - Digital collage

This week, we made digital collages and had to use images that were only form the folder provided.

Figure 1.1 First layout for digital collage. Fish-pocalypse. (13/4/2022)

Figure 1.2 Second layout for digital collage. Life is a movie. (13/4/2022)

Week 4

Figure 1.3 Third layout for digital collage. A fishball in the sky. (20/4/2022)

After my Fauzi, commented on the third layout, I went on and added adjustment layers to it. I added a photo filter named Warming Filter and applied a gradient map on the whole collage but it felt slightly off. Hence, I added another layer which decrease the vibrancy of the floating building rubble. In the end, I liked the tones of the final collage as it had a surrealist atmosphere to it.

FEEDBACK

Cool concept. The third one seems pretty original. Go with third composition. Play with adjustment layers.

REFLECTION

I enjoyed this project very much as I found it easier to manipulate the elements in Photoshop than physically as I would not lose certain pieces accidentally. There were also a wide range of options for us to explore and familiarize ourselves with. Overall, this project helped me experiment more with Photoshop and expanded my knowledge on it.
