Task 2: Self-portrait
VISUAL RESEARCH
Fig 1.1 Mindmap of things about myself. (9/5/2022)
First off, to get an idea of what I wanted to do, I decided to make a mindmap about myself to see what aspects I could use to create the self-portrait. After looking at the mindmap, I decided that I should create something that included at least one aspect of each category.
IDEA EXPLORATION AND DESCRIPTION
Week 7
Inspired by the stray cats that love to visit our house, I wondered what would the cats act like as humans? Then I thought, what would be my spirit animal? A cat. Introverted, preferably alone, mostly quiet, and... randomly hits people jokingly for fun :D.
Hence, here is my humanized cat personality. Every part has an explanation.
Fur colour: Following my skin colour.
Glasses: Resembles the one I wear.
Expression: Bored and "what are ya lookin' at, huh?", which is my mood most of the time.
Headphones: Represents my liking for music. Also resembles my Sony XM4 headphones.
Clothes: The only outfit in my closet that is probably fashionable enough to society's standards.
Pins: These serve two functions: show that I like to collect pins, and show my hobbies and likings through the pins.

Week 8
Since I found it a little plain, I started to add more elements, especially the background, to show more of my personality.
LRT train: Shows I grew up in the city
Nighttime: To show that I'm more of a night owl rather than an early bird.
LRT seats: Usually the LRT seats I ride on are metal but I changed the colour to blue to make it match the background and pop.
Fig 2.2 First idea with added elements, aka Idea 1.2 (13/5/2022)
To create more ideas, I decided to think of more ideas. This one was made when I was listening to a song I recently found which was talking about loss so I found it really relatable to what I was feeling at the moment. Preferably,
Fig 2.3 Second idea, mainly just a spontaneous personal artwork. (22/5/2022)
Fig 2.3 Third idea, resembles the wall of my room which hangs photos of memories with friends. (23/5/2022)
FEEDBACK
Week 7
Idea 1: Do more exploration and generate more ideas first.
Week 8:
N/A due to ILW.
Week 9:
Idea 1.2: Can try a wider angle shot so we can see more of the background.
Idea 2: No comment.
Idea 3: Can merge with Idea 1.2 by hanging on the ceiling of the train.
FINAL OUTCOME
REFLECTION
This was… interesting. This task pretty much forced us to really look at ourselves from different angles, analyse ourselves and find our identity. We had to be introspective and reflect at our journey in life so far and see what made us… us. Everyone’s journey in life is unique and to each their own and shows how we handle our emotions, challenges and obstacles. Overall, I was uncomfortable with it at the start as I don’t really enjoy analysing myself but I am pretty grateful for this task as this provided us the opportunity to stop and think about the past, present and the future.
